Another Zoo-venture

Apparently the Sommers family can't go to the zoo without making it a bit of an adventure! Do you remember the craziness that was our trip last August? Once again we didn't quite know what we were in for when we set out for the zoo yesterday morning. Thankfully, this one didn't invole any bathroom disasters! This week was Spring Break for Sydney and Corban so I had planned on taking them to the Akron Zoo one day. The weather outook for the end of the week was looking amazing (imagine, Ohio weather getting compared to Florida weather! In April, no less!), so that was my plan. Mike told me that if I waited until Friday that he would take the day off and go with us. Mike taking a day off of work?! Now that's a special treat! I was a little worried that the zoo would be busy, with the weather being so nice and it also being Good Friday, I knew a lot of people would be looking for something to do outside. As it turns out, "busy" is an understatement for what we ran into. We couldn't get near the zoo. For those of you familiar with the area, we couldn't even get off 59. Basically, we still had two more roads to go and we were stuck in traffic. We knew some friends of ours were also going to the zoo that day so we called them. They were there a half hour earlier, right when the zoo had opened. They were able to park but were currently waiting in a line just to pay that was out into the parking lot! So, adventurers we are (NOT!) we took a detour and headed to the Cleveland Zoo. It was every bit as busy but being a larger zoo it was more able to handle the crowd. The main parking lot was packed, with people even parking in the grass. When we got there they were directing traffic around and behind the zoo to an apparent overflow lot at the back entrance.

We had packed a picnic lunch to eat at the zoo. When we finally made it to the zoo it was lunch time. We were able to park near the walkway and grassy area, so we ate our lunch right away and didn't have to carry it through the park.  Seriously, can you believe this weather and the green grass on April 2?! Beautiful!
I adore my little family. =)
The kids wanted to see the lions the most. We must have come through at the lions' nap times though because they were being lazy cats. You can barely see the male passed out on the grass if you look between Jared and Corban.
Even in a frog mask Corban is still a cutie!

  1. It looks like you had so much fun at the zoo. Makes me think about when our kids were little and we would take them to the zoo. Katie still likes to go :). You have an adorable family, Cheryl and you and Mike are such wonderful parents. Esther would be proud!!
