Charlotte, NC

We headed straight from Augusta up to Charlotte, NC. The trip was windy but only 3 hours. Our next camp ground is connected to the Carowinds Amusement Park, which I'll get to in a bit.

That night, after catching up on some laundry, we found ourselves at Jim N Nick's BBQ. It is a clean, new restaurant. While our food took a while to come, it was worth the wait. And when the manager came around to check on us, he highly recommended living in Charlotte and gave us this mix for biscuits, with a promise of ten more if we did move there! Ha!

A lot of our breakfasts on this trip were in the camper, which is nice and convenient. We also found a restaurant called MOD Pizza which we ended up eating at twice - a new favorite! We had passes for two days at Carowinds, which we told the kids was our mea culpa for staying at a campground in Georgia with no pool.

We did a lot of driving around and visited York, Rock Hill and and Fort Mill South Carolina. We really liked Rock Hill and Fort Mill - we may have to go back for a visit!

On Wednesday we drove into downtown Charlotte for dinner and to explore the city. We ended up eating at The King's Table, a not-for-profit restaurant that helps the poor. I ordered the shrimp and grits and we were not disappointed! We might just be falling  for Charlotte's charm!

Two of our days were spent almost entirely at Carowinds. We were able to head home for lunch and rest mid-day

Carowinds (and Charlotte) is right on the border of North Carolina and South Carolina. Frequently, we weren't even sure what state we were in! In fact, Carowinds actually straddles both states, so the kids had fun being in two states at once!

As it turns out, Jared and Sydney are daredevils - but you probably knew that already!

On Friday we visited a nice outlet mall in the morning. I met a cashier who had great things to say about Charlotte but thought we might like Raleigh even better...

Then we headed to Greenville, South Carolina to visit our cousins, Jeremy and Shana and their boys who just moved there last year. It was so great to see them and see where they are living now. And Greenville is a beautiful city! Another worthwhile visit, for sure!

Mike is making sure the boys know how to take care of all the aspects of camping, even the "stinky slinky." Yuck!

Coming home = lots of laundry. And Katy was not happy that I covered "her" bed with all my folded clothes.
