Adventure to the Capitol

As I mentioned, we also squeezed in a short trip to Washington DC already during our busy Summer of 2012. Since pictures are worth a thousand words, I’ll keep it  short and simple. It was a fun trip and we crammed a ton in to just a couple days.
Obviously our kids needed some guidance on the capitol goings-on since they instantly recognized the Capitol Building but thought it was the White House. I suppose there’s no better way to learn than by actually seeing and doing. We did a lot of that last weekend!

For me, the highlight of the trip was meeting up with  my best friend from school, Julie Heltsley. She moved out of state in college and has lived in Maryland for quite a few years now, so seeing her is few and far between. Her sister, Christina, was also in town with her 3 kids. We met up at the International Spy Museum and then had lunch at District of Pi, the best pizza place I’ve ever visited. Yum!!!

They all wanted to do a goofy-face photo. I don’t think these cute kids could look bad, though, do you?

I can never resist getting a picture of the kids sleeping in a hotel. They do this every time!

A highlight was, naturally, the Air and Space Museum

The kids also loved the Natural History Museum (although I can’t say I much liked the crowds at either)

We priced out carriage rides and bus tours and came to the conclusion that bikes were the way to go. We had the freedom to go pretty much where we wanted and it was so much faster (and easier) than walking. We saw the MLK Jr., Lincoln, Washington, Jefferson, WWII, Korean, Vietnam Wall, and Roosevelt Memorials along the way. The kids had a blast, too! (And, best of all, no walking complaints!) Mike and Sydney and Jared and I shared tandem bikes while big boy Corban rode all by himself. They are already begging to do a bike trip wherever we go next.
