The Pittsburgh Zoo

Last week Corban and Sydney had Spring Break. Jared had his preschool Spring Break the week before, but only had to go Monday and Wednesday last week since Friday was Good Friday. At the beginning of the week my friend Jessica, whose kids, Dylan and Lauren, go to school with Corban and Sydney, called me and asked if we’d like to go to the Pittsburgh Zoo with them. Of course! I was already planning on taking them to the Akron Zoo and we have never been to the Pittsburgh Zoo, so this would be a new adventure! And you know that Zoos and the Sommers family always equal an adventure! Jared had to miss preschool, but I figured he would learn plenty at the zoo to make up for it. He missed his Easter party but I don’t think he was too disappointed.

What kids doesn’t love posing for the camera? Definitely not these kids!

This zoo has several tunnels where you can walk through aquariums and see different animals. The sharks were stunning. We were at first disappointed that the polar bear was not swimming when we walked through, but he put on a pretty good show by the time we came up to see him at the surface.

He swam right over to the kids and played around for a few minutes.

We were so excited to see this momma guerilla and her baby! It’s tiny and hard to see, but it’s there!

One of our last stops was the elephants. We thought it would be a good photo opportunity. Until my kids proved that they only know how to be hams in front of the camera. See Jessica’s kids trying to stand nicely in front of the elephant? And see my kids all trying to make elephant ears? That was unprompted. It wasn’t the picture I had in mind but it did turn out cute. Smile
