Once Upon a Pumpkin

We finally made it to the pumpkin patch this year so the kids could pick out their pumpkins. I don’t know why we never learn our lesson. We wait until the end of October when it gets dark by the time dinner is over and the temperatures have dropped to just above absolutely-too-cold-to-stand. But, we made it! And the kids had a great time!

Our local pumpkin farm is run by friends which makes it an extra fun place to visit. We (this scrapbooking mom) also love all the photo opportunities we are presented with.

There was even time to squeeze in a train ride. We have had so much rain this fall that they weren’t doing hay rides out to the pumpkin patch. The kids didn’t notice at all, they were having too much fun as it was.

When we were finished with all the fun attractions we let the kids pick out pumpkins. By this time it was dark outside and the kids were a little amped up. Sydney of course went for the largest pumpkin she could find.  Her buddy Travis helped her carry it over to pay before Mike realized her choice and made her put it back. Mike then took the kids to a row with “smaller” pumpkins and told them to pick from there. Well, those smaller pumpkins weren’t really all that much smaller and Travis’ mom Brittany (a wonderful friend of mine from high school) and I were laughing at the size of pumpkins Mike was letting them pick. It wasn’t until the next evening when Mike sat down with the kids to help them carve their pumpkins that he realized how big they were. No, they weren’t huge, but they were definitely more than we needed – or wanted – to carve.

But, never fear: Sydney’s here! She loved getting down and dirty into the pumpkin. At one point, Mike still musing on the size of the pumpkins, asked, “ I wonder if Sydney could fit her head in one of these.” Lesson learned: Don’t ask. She tried. Thankfully her head didn’t fit. But, she was able to get both of her arms inside.

Meanwhile, Corban was washing his hands in between every scoop! Ha!
