More Zoo-ventures

There is a theme with us and zoos. Have you noticed? Remember Jared’s bathroom spill on our way to the zoo a few years ago that required a complete change of clothes? Then there was our trip to the zoo over Spring Break. Where it snowed. For us, the zoo is more about seeing the animals. We make it an adventure! Well, we had to keep that streak going, didn’t we? Jared’s preschool class was supposed to have a field trip to the zoo a few weeks ago. If you live around here, you know the kind of spring we have been having. My children are forgetting what the sun looks like! Someone said they recently heard that we have had 10 sunny days since December! So, of course, it was absolutely pouring rain on the day of Jared’s field trip. I was so relieved when they rescheduled it. You would assume the weather would be nicer by the middle of May, right? Wrong! MORE RAIN! But, we were determined to go, so go we did!

We ran through the rain in the parking lot to meet the other adventurers inside the main doors. By the time everyone arrived and we made our way to the café area where we were going to eat lunch, the rain had slowed to a sprinkle. We all gathered in the (very crowded) café area to eat and spend a little time look at the indoor exhibits. Blessing of blessings, the rain had mostly eased off by the time we were ready to head outside and see more animals.

The lion was in rare form yesterday and we could hear him grunting and growling throughout the day. It’s no wonder he’s the King of the Beasts!!!

I got my required picture of the kids with the bear! You can’t tell at all that Sydney loves her picture taken, can you?! Smile

She also wanted me to take their picture in front of every pretty flowering bush she found! Whether Jared wanted it or not!

I wish you could tell that she is wet almost up to her knees. The rain may have let up, but everything was still soaked. Seconds after telling them not to step in puddles, I looked over to see Sydney in one that was deeper than her shoes. Needless to say, when we left the zoo we were all ready for a complete outfit change. Poor Jared even sat in a puddle (accidentally) at one point.

By the time we made it through, the temperature had cooled off and the rain was picking up again. We were able to take our first ride on the brand new carousel. Too bad mommy picked the only animal that didn’t go up and down for Jared and I to ride! Oh the tears! We will just have to go back again for another adventure, I guess!
